I secured financing before going to Carmax, but as with all salesman, told I could get a better rate if they tried a different lender. Within a week I received denial letters from lenders as I knew I would due to a my "credit challenges".

Well I found a car that the salesman had transferred from another location, yet didn't contact me to inform when the car arrived. The nearest Carmax is 1hr away from my home and I took a chance going to the lot to see other vehicles, as well as the transfer, that I wasn't sure had arrived. Throughout this process I would speak to whomever was available because no one was consistent or followed up with me. I didn't like the car once I saw it, it wasn't what I was looking for.

After going to various car dealers and still looking online with Carmax, I found the car I wanted! I was excited because the price, mileage, color & size was what I was looking for. My fiancรฉ & I drove in a thunderstorm 1hour away to see this car. I called and spoke with a salesman to let him know we were on our way.

No one came out and showed us the car we were told the isle the car was on & we looked at the car, sat inside and I knew I wanted it. Due to the storm and our work schedule I told the salesman we would be back in 3 days but I would call him the next day to confirm. The salesman put a sold tag in the car with my name on it (I saw it myself). I spoke with him the next day, Wednesday & Thursday to ask questions and confirm a few things.

Friday we had an appt at 130pm to pick up my new car! We arrived Friday after 1 and was told the car was no longer available it had been sold!!!!!!! What?????? I had my down payment, I had taken the day off work, I had planned my entire weekend with my new car!!!!

I was told I'm sorry, but look around and see what else you like!!!!!!!! I left hurt, disappointed & an angry non-Carmax customer!!!! It's been almost 1week and I haven't even received a courtesy email or follow up call.

All the sales managers were too busy to speak with me. I'm not to busy to let everyone know that Carmax has terrible customer service!!!!

Brah,

Car dealers of any kind are not going to hold cars for days on end. That makes bad business sense.

They hear "We will be back in xx days" all the time, it's called the 'be back bus' in the industry lingo.

They have to sell what's available today and move that metal. I agree they should not have led you on that they would hold the vehicle.

One day is the absolute max at all dealerships.

Absolutely correct!! Out of 10 people who SWEAR they will "BE BACK" to finish a deal, about 1-2 actually do...

Real statistics.....

If you really want a dealership to hold a car for you- say, because you will have to drive 10 hours one way to get said car, put a deposit down on it. Then the dealership knows u are serious and will be back for your car. I've yet to run into a dealership that would refuse a significant deposit to hold a car for a few days until you could come pick it up.
