Worst car buying experience EVER! I wouldn't even give them one star but I had to give them something to write a review. Only reason I went there is they had a car I wanted; what could go wrong, right? They say they stand behind their cars, yet they told me, after...

I brought a 2010 Jaguar from the carmax in Fayetteville NC. Within 1 week the transmission lights were on and the steering wheel made noises.

I took the car back only for them to say they fixed the steering wheel and to keep the car for 2weeks. A month later the same noises presented and now the dashboard was buckling. I took the car to the jaguar place where they told me I no longer had a factory warranty when. I was told that I did by the carmax employee.

The dash was going to be about 4800 but I cld use my extended warranty that I brought for the steering wheel. Icalled carmax bck and told them what the jaguar dealership said and they wanted me to bring it back to them since they originally worked on it. When I got there once again they said nothing was wrong. I called jaguar and put them on speaker phone so they could give them the diagnosis.

Then carmax decided they would allow jaguar to replace the steering column. But instead of putting my car on a lift they drove it there and drove it back 8 days later. I've had my car going on 90 days and 21 days of it the car was in the shop.

Not to mention they won't fix the dashboard. Never again will they get my business and I will not refer anyone to them.

Service
Carmax Repair
They completely over-exaggerated miniscule dings as being needed items of 'major repair' thus greatly reducing the price of the car (extremely minor 'hail damage' which in fact was unnoticeable dents probably from rocks from normal driving) The car listed on kbb was...

Okay, being a biz man turned auto-sales mgr I can tell you "your car is a Depreciating asset" & the car companies work with the banks to ***! That's right!

Say you buy an your approved for a 3.9% apr for 66 and salesman comes out and says "congrats you are approved for a 5.9% apr for 66" . Now, don't be pissed at your salesman, he is not the *** here. Just the greedy "community pillar-dealer & the bankers in Manhattan counting profit at your expense! You think 2 pt?

Big deal and you fight and heckle over price and get best deal. Well bend over Bc your getting f-d! Take your typ 2-4pt apr% add-on say on a $20k purchase = $40-80 month. Almost $5k in applied apr!!

That $ is split between dealer & bank! Biggest scam thanks Uncle Sam

This person must be a shill who works for carmax. They monitor this board and add posts.

Their cars are all priced several thousand above competition.

And the price is a lie.

They take 200 off advertised price and add it back as a fake "service" fee. The fake fee is a cost of doing business, nothing extra, so its part of the price.?

I brought my car to CM for appraisal and possibly trade toward another car. KBB trade in value is around $24k+ and retail at around $28k. CM appraised it at $18K ($6k below fair market value). I got a little upset and let out a little sarcastic laugh when they told me that. They offered to explain why it's so low and they brought the "Paint thickness meter" to told me parts of the car has slightly thicker pain than another part like "the paint on the hood was thicker than the door" and they claim it was repainted or in an accident. Funny thing is I'm the original owner and I KNOW I was never been in an accident nor have I painted the car. I know it's all BS trying to RIP me off.

(Yes clean and clear car history report)

What have I learned from this? Well, CM appraisal is a joke so don't take them seriously. Sell it yourself or take it to another dealership to see if you can get a better offer (and you probably will).

When enough people being to realize this CarMax scam, they will eventually lose out on business and their customer base that keeps them in business.

Carmax appraisal process?

Carmax is not obligated to buy an automobile from anyone. However, it would not seem to be a good idea to make unfair offers since this method of doing business insults the customer and would not be considered a good business practice. I think a better way for Carmax is to anticipate if an adequate level of demand is present then continue with the appraisal procees. If not, they should inform the customer that they can not offer a fair market price due to low demand. Why would anyone offer an official appraisal document which has a value much lower than market or wholesale value. This could become a lawsuit issue in the future. The word appraisal should identify the type of value being reported. Market value / Wholesale value / etc. There should not be an appraisal document submitted which is much lower than the type of value being reported since this would be missleading to the consumer.

Carmax checks ALL of their markets to price your vehicle. Not only do they lowball, they look in all of the nearby cities and then offer you the lowest market value minus any damage.

I was curious about this and took my 2005 Nissan Murano with 5K miles on it in for an appraisal (in 2005, it was brand new). Carmax offered me $5K for my brand new fully loaded Murano.

Will I ever buy a car from them?

*** no!! nor will I ever sell a car to them..

Unfornuately demand is extremely HIGH for used cars right now. This is due to cash for clunkers, recession (automakers making fewer cars) resulting in short supply & higher used car prices.

Do yourself a favor and purchase a new vehicle with a full factory warranty, lower interest rates & not purchasing some others problem.......

If demand is low, and they offer an amount based on that, isn't that fair market value?

$149 processing fee is a deal compared to other dealers most around here are 499 to 650 and it is nothing more than hidden profit.
