Saw the car I wanted on Carmax.com. It was located 40 miles from my home but the ad said "$49.00 transfer fee returnable upon test drive". Ok, great. Went to the local carmax to inquire. When I asked about the refundable transfer fee, the saleswoman said "Let's go talk and while we're at it, we'll have someone evaluate your trade". While walking to the office, my daughter saw the HUGE poster with a totaled car on it with the same car, in great condition, next to it. The poster said "Carmax would never do this to you". When I asked she said "see what dealers will do to you?? They will take that totaled car, fix it to look like new and sell it - we would NEVER do that to you".

In her office, they make it seem like they are so honest that every sceen they go through on the computer is shown to you - what integrity! Well, we looked at the car online (since it was in a different city) and while checking the carfax, wouldn't you know the car was in an accident! Are you kidding me! So I said to the girl, "my, your big sign out there says you would NEVER fix up a car and resell it - just those bad dealership salespeople would". Her response was "I can assure you it was just a fender bender". Really? She knew that? The carfax didn't go into enough detail for her to make that statement.

Ok, now the trade value comes back. A bit lower than I expected but not too bad - salesgirl said, more than once, "we are not mechanics here". When the financing information came back, she said that some obscure company would be glad to help me with my financing. I asked about this company and she said "they are located in Spain". What?!?! Spain? They want people to finance their cars with a company in Europe which is on the brink of collapse? I guess Carmax wants to help stimulate Europe's economy. Oh and about the refundable transfer fee, don't bet on it! I'm sure there's some way they get around that wonderful offer.

When the girl asked me, with her big eager smile, "so what do you want to do next?" I said "I don't want to waste any more of your time" and proceeded to walk out. As I was walking out the door, the woman, who had told me more than once that they are not mechanics, said "By the way, you have sludge in your engine". Really? Sludge? Don't all engines have sludge? Was this the last resort tactic to scare me into buying a car? I think so. DO NOT TRUST THEM! Remember they all want to make money. As much as they act as though they care about you and want to "help you" they don't. It's all about the $$. Please do your research before settling for Carmax.

Carmax is just another shady used car dealership. Don't be fooled by their line of Bs. Would not recommend to anyone...

Okay let me clear somethings up for you since your saleswoman didn't. I am not speaking on behalf of carmax by anymeans. The car you saw was the never sell car, meaning carmax will not sell you cars that have been totalled/salvaged. Also if the vehicle had frame damage or flood damage they won't sell it to you either. carmax puts that in writing. So whatever accident showed up on that report was not an accident that caused frame damage or structure damage.

The finance company from spain is called Santander, they happen to be the 13th largest public company in the world, and Santander USA is the America version. So believe me they are not small time. They are one of the strongest banks on the planet.

Last but not least. NO. All engines do not have sludge. If you have a build up of sludge in your engine I would at least get it checked out.

And yes you would have gotten your $49.00 dollars back. It's that simple.

Nothing sneaky about that
