I just learned something similar in my car history. When I asked for the CARFAX report when buying my car last year from CarMax; they declined and said "there was no accident history" on my car; however now that I want to trade it in there is and no one will give me over 2k for my $14k financed car. CarMax is conveniently not returning my calls and says they "do not have to disclose anything unless it is frame damage".

I bought a vehicle from Carmax in 2008. When I went to them to sell the vehicle last month, they showed me a Autocheck report that stated the vehicle was in an accident in 2006!!!

It was not on the paperwork I received when I bought the vehicle (I even brought it in to show them), and would NEVER have bought it with the "corrected report.

I contacted AUTOCHECK and Equifax, the parent company, and they can't tell me when the record was added. Looking at the information above, tells me someone had it removed until the vehicle was sold by Carmax........

The reason CarMax went from Carfax to Autocheck is, Carfax would not change their reports when Carmax asked. Autocheck agreed to modify or update their reports if Carmax asked them to.

I have sen them remove wreck data and change milage in a matter of minutes. Carmax buyers call them daily and have information removed from their reports.

Autocheck and Carfax both use state agency data to derive their vehicle history. Autocheck goes a step further and also uses wholesale auction data to check mileage and condition reports. So basically Autocheck is a little more intensive, Carfax just happens to do a better job marketing.

No actually I used to work for a dealer (now work in another industry) and I honestly find autocheck to be more reliable. I will give you that it is more confusing to read than Carfax though. However, I would never buy a used car without checking both and having a body shop and mechanic look at the car.

Autucheck superior? You must work for them and not at a dealer. Dealers know that the Carfax report is the superior report out there.

I have no idea what your complaint is but CarMax and Carfax are completely different companies. In addition, CarMax uses Autocheck (a Carfax competitor) which is superior. Also, they would get you a copy of the Carfax if you asked.
