purchased a car from car max, got the extended warranty. Clutch went out 3 months later. Would not cover the clutch. Pretty much pushed us out the door.

I don't know of any warranties that cover the clutch. It is considered a wear item like brake pads.

These are just some things that people need to be aware of. You could have taken the car somewhere to get it checked out as they have a 5 day return policy which dealers generally do not have

Carmax lowball ripping people off appraisals

KBB has my car it 29k. Edmunds at 28k. Black Book at 27k (as trade in values, not private party as they were higher) I take my car into CarMax and they lowball offered me at 23k... The appraiser was a ***. Car is in excellent condition. Yes excellent as it was bought brand new and is less than a year old ( 2012 Lexus CT hybrid )and he said stuff to the extent that my rear bumper needed repair and repaint. I said, "what???? show me where" as the car is in excellent condition, he points to a "1 inch scratch" that was on the OEM rear bumper clear applique/protector. I said what the ***? its a freaking clear protective sticker that comes off. If you remove that protectant sticker so with the surface scratch on the sticker will come off as well. What repair/repainting needs to be done??? Idiots I tell you.

I think all sales consultants should refuse to go on any test drives BEFORE the appraisal is finished, because a lowball appraisal will kill the deal for sure. The customers should always go watch the appraisers and not walk the lot and waste everyones time.

and..... the sales consultant wasted their time while the appraisal was going on!

So everyone loses out, AND you bsoinak were very insulted by the offer I am sure!

Great job carmax! People, dont waste your precious gas going to carmax.

PS, in California, the speed limit on the open highway is 75mph, so it is a bit of a problem when my almost $30,000 car is limping in the right lane doing 60 so it won\'t fall apart!

I got my vehicle repaired through the Toyota dealer, all at my own effort. Although some bigwig at CarMax called me, they did absolutely nothing.

I still believe you should never buy from CarMax. They have become completely unethical.

Carmax in Los Angeles, California - 2001 pathfinder

So i took my Vehicle to repair an oil leak at the Buena Park location. It was specifically a valve cover gasket passenger side which i would be expecting to pay around $500. So i took it in... got it back paying of course the $500... 7-8 months later, i get an oil change andi notice hey there's an oil leak! So i trace it back to, of course the valve cover gasket on the passenger side. it's a gasket so you wouldn't notice the leak rite away and eventually later on it'd be become a problem but not right aay. So i call Carmax and say "Hey you never fixed my problem". The guy tells me "ok sorry to hear about it and bring it in and pay the $50 service charge to have it looked at". So i said, "ok i'll see you monday". so i take it in and the guy at the counter tells me "it's not longer warranteed, we only warranty for 6 months". Now i have to pay another $4-$500 out of my pocket for the same dame problem. This time, time is against me and now the leak is really really bad. I've driven 500 miles since my last oil change and it's burnt almost 3/4 quart of synthetic oil, so i don't get oil changes as often as 3,000 miles.

Unfortunatley, most mechanics are crooks. Same thing happened to me last summer.

I paied over $1200 to get a few things done to my car: new tires, motor mounds, and brakes. Turnes out, the guy gave me 2 motor mounds the others are badly cracked, 2new tires, and never touched the brakes. Told me he didn't remember me. I wanted to ring his neck because he overcharged me.

Now I take my chances on people that I know. I would rather give my money to a person that will try than to a person who is just a theif!

Stay Away from Carmax

I bought my car from Carmax 2 months ago and I am still dealing with service. I test drove the car and decided to go ahead with the financing, but I was missing some information and it was getting late so I said I'd return later in the week. When I returned, we went through financing and delivery of the car. They were very unprofessional, but foolishly I didn't take that as a sign of bad, very bad things to come. Big MISTAKE!!! It was dark out when I came back to buy the car, so I did not notice these massive scratches on the roof that were not there when I originally test drove the car. I had already signed paperwork, but I immediately told my sales person I would not take the car with that kind of damage. He immediately reassured me of Carmax's 5 day return policy, and said that it was easy to fix and it would be taken care of. I requested he put it in writing. I got in the car and just as I turned on the car, the tire pressure light came on - didn't happen when I originally test drove. I went to go advise him of it, and he said that as soon as I drove it for a long period of time, it would go away. Not the case. I called back the next day to schedule the scratches on the roof to be repaired, and I got an appointment 2 weeks later. Repair took two days, and I am very busy, so my boyfriend picked up the car and didn't bother checking the roof. When I finally saw the car, the scratches looked identical!! I could not believe my eyes, but at least the pressure light was off. Carmax wouldn't give me a loaner phone, and I could not afford to be without a car another two days, so I decided to wait until I went on vacation for 2.5 weeks so they could fix the roof. Meanwhile, the pressure light came on again, just two days before taking it in. I dropped off my car before going away, and when I returned I was very upset. This time, the scratches looked worse!!!!! They simply painted over them. I have a green/silver car and the paint looked purple. At that point I lost all patience and demanded answers. Service staff was already gone so a very unprofessional sales manager came out to assist. Instead of reassuring me, she simply said, "I can guarantee you that the repair was done, and this is the best we can do... We cannot paint the entire roof for you." I could not believe my ears. I was angry, and told her that if it was "the best they could do" then I wasn't forced to keep the car because they breached the contract. She said they would call me the next day. Sure enough, the next day I get a call saying it has been taken to a shop for repair. Apparently third time is the charm because this time it looked great. But this is not the end of it. A few days later, the tire pressure light comes on again!! They told me they couldn't do anything about it, and that I should take my car in to the manufacturer because it's still under warranty. Wait, what? So two months later, things are still not resolved. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At what point does a car stop being CarMax's and start being yours.

People cars break, thats why there are warranties. Which by the way even new cars come with...why? Because CARS break.

They screwed me over on my CX7. It had the wrong battery cable which literally fell off during the first oil change.

Now I have a slew of electrical issues and they wont even look at it.

Cars break, you are insulting! I bought a car from them because they claim to have the highest quality used cars that are inspected and guaranteed!

By the way, even new cars break... at least get your facts straight before you say *** things.

No one is denying the fact that used cars have issues. However, when you were promised that something would get fixed the day that you purchase the car, and then you take it to them 4 times only to be returned in the same condition, there's something wrong with that!!!

People blaming car dealerships for their USED cars having mechanical issues are amusing. This is why it's best to leave reviewing companies to professionals.

All cars break down - all cars get scratched at some point. Stop whining and get it fixed. If you wanted shot at a perfect car buy a NEW car.

It's just silly. High finance rates, mechanical issues, and pricing are not scams or even issues.

They are part of the business.

High rates goes with poor credit. USED cars come with damage built in.
