I bought a BMW from Carmax last year - just found out had been in prior accident when I looked to trade in at BMW dealership. Very disappointing, and looking into legal remedies since I'm an attorney.

Was you car in prior accident that Carmax did not disclose?

purchased a car from car max, got the extended warranty. Clutch went out 3 months later. Would not cover the clutch. Pretty much pushed us out the door.

I don't know of any warranties that cover the clutch. It is considered a wear item like brake pads.

These are just some things that people need to be aware of. You could have taken the car somewhere to get it checked out as they have a 5 day return policy which dealers generally do not have

Carmax lowball ripping people off appraisals

KBB has my car it 29k. Edmunds at 28k. Black Book at 27k (as trade in values, not private party as they were higher) I take my car into CarMax and they lowball offered me at 23k... The appraiser was a ***. Car is in excellent condition. Yes excellent as it was bought brand new and is less than a year old ( 2012 Lexus CT hybrid )and he said stuff to the extent that my rear bumper needed repair and repaint. I said, "what???? show me where" as the car is in excellent condition, he points to a "1 inch scratch" that was on the OEM rear bumper clear applique/protector. I said what the ***? its a freaking clear protective sticker that comes off. If you remove that protectant sticker so with the surface scratch on the sticker will come off as well. What repair/repainting needs to be done??? Idiots I tell you.

I think all sales consultants should refuse to go on any test drives BEFORE the appraisal is finished, because a lowball appraisal will kill the deal for sure. The customers should always go watch the appraisers and not walk the lot and waste everyones time.

So markbras, that vehicle was leaking and getting all wet inside while it sat on the lot at carmax. Can you imagine a sales person going on a test drive and noticing this problem?

How come carmax did not fix it then?

Hmmmmm, I am wondering if carmax waited for someone to purchase the vehicle and let them bring it back! Way to go carmax!

PS, in California, the speed limit on the open highway is 75mph, so it is a bit of a problem when my almost $30,000 car is limping in the right lane doing 60 so it won\'t fall apart!

I got my vehicle repaired through the Toyota dealer, all at my own effort. Although some bigwig at CarMax called me, they did absolutely nothing.

I still believe you should never buy from CarMax. They have become completely unethical.

I purchased a car that was said to have 0 accidents but there is a panel on the rear of the car that has been repainted. Also, the tail light has a crack in it that can only occur from an accident.

Took it back to Carmax and they are making it seem like the car didn't have the damage when I bought it. However, they no longer have any photos of the vehicle that would prove me right or wrong.

I am about to sue them.
