Buena Park CarMax a den of ***

We took my imaculate 2003 Ford F250 Diesel Crew Cab Pickup truck to get a "fair evaluation and a great price " for it. The pushy asian kid talked our ears off with all of the "feel good" CarMax BS for a good 15 minutes before he finally took the...

Carmax Ripped me off! Nightmare!

I've been a long time Carmax customer. Now I feal hurt and betrayed. My car is 4 months old and developed a rod knock, CarMax looked at it and told me to bring it to Ford. Ford notifed the warrenty co. for repair athurization, so did I and Carmax. The warrenty co was also invited to come to the dealer to listen to the noise. It was discovered that there was heavy scorring on the cam shaft and rod bearings and clyinder walls and the engine would need to be replaced. However since they don't know which part was making the sound, its my responsability to pay for the dissasembly of this engine and all repairs. What did I do wrong? I only had this car for 4500 miles and I have changed the oil. I have contacted Jeff at their customer service center, but the local guys at the Charlotte office are now not even returning my calls.

CarMax= CRAP

We recently had an experience w/ Carmax. In November 2007, we bought a 2004 Ford Explorer from the fredericksburg location. Well when driving to Florida for a family vacation with myself, my husband and 3 children in March 2008, doing 65 mph down 95 all 5 of our...

Hi my wife and i hate car max they are nothing but *** !

#1030974

I have tried to buy a car there 3 times before, walked out after 10 minutes every time. They will offer you a lowball amount for your car and lie about issues with it while demanding over retail for their vehicle with "no haggle" BS they will not drop it $1.

Also beware most of the cars on the lot are former beat on rental cars and are out of warranty.

You will lose at least $2000 here buying a car if not more. They WILL NOT give you a fair offer on your car and WILL NOT take anything off their price.

#740819

I feel your frustration! Bought an 07 BMW 328i.

I've bought 5 cars from Carmax and never had a problem and trusted their certification. I've had this car in the service center once a month, adding an extra $150 per month. They will not work a deal with me. I will never use them again!

They are no longer the working man's car dealership and can't be trusted.

#14001

What are "idots"? For crying out loud, tell your story.

What kind of car was it? How much did it cost? How many miles did you drive it? What was its service history?

You say so little but cry so much. Its difficult to have any sympathy for you when you use little literacy and common sense when explaining your problem.

#11623

They will stall and not return your calls and hope you go away. They seem to care only about short term profit not repeat customers.

#11622

Never again, I have been a loyal customer for 11 years, 5 cars.

Now im stuck with a lemon that needed an engine, i have only had car for 4500 miles and had the oil changed by Carmax!! warrenty will not cover large repair jobs!

#10692

:grin You are so right! They're idiots!

They stalled and didn't return my call so I told them what I was going to do. It wasn't in their hands because we had just bought the car and we returned it. They made the mistake of giving me the attitude that they give people who are "stuck" with their cars because it's past the grace period. They are liars and fakes!

I wouldn't recommend Carmax to my dog! They act like they care but they don't.

When theres a problem, they have a guy who looks like a bouncer help you which is what happened when we retuned our car. They know they aggitate people and I'm seeing more and more posts about it all the time.

We went to the Carmax in Jacksonville Fl. with a 2008 Jeep Wrangler, Right Hand Drive. The vehicle had 60k miles and was well equipted, on the net there isn't a jeep of any kind in excellent shape for less than $20k, they offered us $7000 for it. The apprazer said the car would go to auction because of right hand drive BS LET YOUR BUDDIES KNOW THAT IT WON'T BE THERE AT THE AUCTION SO THEY CAN'T GET A GOOD DEAL SORRY I GUESS YOU NEVER KNOW WHO'S LISTENING WHEN YOU GUYS ARE ON A BREAK

CarMax sold me a lemon!

My right front rotor had shattered one day on the highway breaking my caliper. I had no brakes for awhile, and didnt have the money then for repairs so i used my parking brakes. During this time my axles went bad. So i go to Acura and have the extended warranty to fix them and get a quote on the brakes too. It was way too much. So i then go to a local shop to have my brakes fixed, except the right front rotor didnt fit the hub, cause the hub was different than the other side. CarMax never responded to my repeated calls. My car was stolen and totaled out by insurance co. Im stuck with a bill and no car.

Can you give me the last 6 digits of the vin? I will find out what they did to the car.

Carmax replaces parts with aftermarket cheap stuff. They probably put the wrong hub on your car. Also carmax hires uncertified people and licenses them as apprentices and lets them do the inspections and repairs unsupervised.

The retail techs are certified the production techs that recondition the cars are not. This is where they are liable for bad repairs that could have caused serious injury

#357454

Terjoal, I think you missed the point. She bought a car from a company that claims to examine and inspect them carefully so that you get a safe, reliable car. But they don't. And you're a ***.Mocking a single mother is real macho.

#49308

I am only assuming you had purchased th vehicle in this condition. Carmax assumes the worst that the customer is to blame for any issues related to a rental car they had purchased of an auction.

These vehicles are ragged on or even wrecked. They hold the consumer resposable for anything that may go wrong.

Buy an extended warantee, is a very common reocurring comment. If carmax wants to sell you a dependable car there are better resourses than where body shops go to purchase parts.

#15731

If I understand this correctly. You had car problems not related to Carmax, did not get the repairs done which ended up causing more problems-and you blame Carmax??

#11451

Buy better cars.

One Car Two Flats! Thanks to Carmax!

We bought a car from Carmax Duarte CA and the next day we were trying to drive it to Palm Springs and both back tires went flat! We were barely able to exit the freeway and were stuck in a remote area where we could've been robbed until our tow truck service came. Under the circumstances I didn't want the tires especially after financing almost $20,000 for a car and told them to replace them. They didn't want to do that even though their mechanic admitted to me the valve stems were on wrong, so I took the car back and didn't pay them a cent! Regarding our trade in, we didn't! They offered my husband $50 (yes fifty) for our 90 Chevy Lumina which I could get at least $800 for it front of my house so we kept the Lumina and drove it away from Carmax'[s lot when we returned their car.

It never fails, these people wasting everyones time with empty comments defending the subject of peoples complaints. These same people probably look for posts just so they can do this.

My junkyard Lumina gets me around quite nicely.

This individual probably has never dealt with Carmax. :roll

#10393

If I were a dealer I wouldn't have even considered your trade-in. It's obvious by their offer they were trying to avoid taking the trade-in.

Think about it from their perspective, how much money can one make from selling a 1990 Lumina? It's junk yard material!

Carmax = torture!

I bought a 2005 Audi S4 from the LAX location 4 weeks ago. After a week I noticed an odd noise coming from the steerring on full lock. Call up Carmax and they say take it to any Audi dealer (I'm in SF) and they will fix it, Carmax will pay. Nope! My car has been at Audi for 2.5 weeks while Carmax pass me from one person to the other, don't return calls and generally try and bury their head in the sand. Even the "Executive help team" can't get the *** store manager to call me back! AVOID THESE MUPPETS AT ALL COSTS!

Written by Carmax Cross Functional Progra, on 08-10-2009 16:47

I also was lied to about the Cross Functional Management Program. How can you be a Foutune 500 Company and lie to people about giving them a raise to go into the cross functional management program. It's a disgrace and an embarrassement. Someone needs to be fired over this. I know those 4 original managers as well and they were all dedicated to the company and their jobs. They were lied to just like I was lied to. I guess what goes around comes around - eventually. If your taking a crossfunctional position or being considered for a manager position you better get everything in writing.

If any company needs a UNION it's Carmax. Once a GREAT company when Austin Ligon was the CEO. Back then it was "what you knew that would get you the promotion you deserved. Now it's who you know not what you know. They are a now a wolf in sheeps clothing. I remember those Cross Funcional Managers: Troy, Jim, Travis and Donnell. All were great managers and were lied to about their pay and incentives. Now they are gone. What a loss to the company. Tom Folliard has no conscious or he would fire Dan Johnston and Linda White for lying to those guys. Employees should ban together and get Unionized or shut this place down. Pay back is *** ya know.

Carmax

I have bought three cars from carmax. I mostly have had a good things to say about them. But I have had one run in with them. It was over a Pontiac Montana Van. It had a problem the overdrive in this van had went out of it. It took me to take it to another pontiac dealer to find this problem. The thing that I did was return the favor and traded it back to them almost a year later. So on the most part I will still buy cars from them. Put Im sticking to my roots. No More GM vehicles for me.

Told vehicle had factory warranty, had none

the last week of Sept 2007 I purchased a 2004 lexus rx330 with 25667 miles on it from Car Max of Fay,NC.I was told by the salesperson that the vehicle has the remaining factory warranty up to 48,000,I also purchased an extended warranty for 1389.00 for 20,000 miles.I have only put 3400 miles on the vehicle, took it to lexus in Raleigh,NC for service and was told the factory warranty was out on the car when I bought it back in Aug. To make things worse the extended warranty has refused to pay for repairs (the tire rods are frozen due to this car came from up North).I am considering taking legal action against the dealership.Buyer beware!I do not beleive they even inspected this vehicle they just took it off the truck & sold it to me

I did business before I researched these guys. I was ***, I was in a hurry. We needed to get my cousin back to the states and I jumped at their prices.

These guys kept me going in circles while I was desparate for the tickets. I ordered tickets online and was given a reciept that said I would get an eticket within two hours. when 3 or 4 hours passed, I called and they were closed. It was only a 1/2 hour before they opened, so I waited. I got a hold of them and explained my concern. They told me they had just opened and that all tickets were processed by hand. I would have to wait a few hours while all tickets were processed. I waited and then got a Credit Card Auth form. I sent it back per instructions but stipulated that I needed both tickets that i requested. I called and checked on the status of my fax. they gave me more excuses. this had me concerned so I decided to do a web search on them. Ultimate Fares looks like the entire travel industry hates them. this had me concerned. I called UF back, stated my concerns, and stated that I needed to see some tickets in my email by morning or I would have to cancel through my Credit Card Company. By morning, no tickets.

Now these guys are saying that a ticket from Lufthansa was used. I went to Lufthansa and purchased a ticket in person and got a physical ticket, not an e-ticket. UF says that it was the same ticket. I don't see how this can be.

Now they want me to send the ticket, that I purchased directly from LH, to them so that they can process a refund. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing left to do, the CC company handled to cancellation, I bought new tickets directly, and now everyone is home using tickets that I purchased without the help of UF.

Question: Is there really any reason that they have to do another refund? We have our refund through the CC company. Why would they need the physical ticket from Lufthansa? They asked for the ticket # first and I gave that to them. Now they want the physical ticket but I won't send that because we need it for our records.

Comments appreciated

Carmax sells unsafe vehicles. Technicians are honest to managers about what repairs are needed.

Managers who were fry cooks a week ago now make the decision as to whether a vehicle gets safety related repairs depending on cost per vehicle reports. If the numbers are too high they throw the dice and hope the customer does not return in 30 days. SAD SAD SAD company especially Naperville IL location.

Jacob Janowski is the service OPS manager and is clueless about cars just managing numbers on a report. Beware....

Inaccurate information r/t failure to communicate!

I purchased my car from car maxx, almost two years ago. Paid my payments timely and 4 months ago I was in a car accident in which I did not have uninsured motorist, rental, towing, medical or gap insurance. The car was totaled and the Insurance company payment left me with a little over a $3500 balance. I suffered head injuries and lost of wages for two months. Missed one payment. Triad Ins. Dept wanted me to continue my same payments or payoff the car totally. Unfortunately, due to the degree of my injuries i went back to work two months ago. they told me that they could not set up any payment arrangements to electronically take the payments out of my account inadvance due to my account was in the INs. Dept. Last week I recieved a letter indicating I was less than 50 days past due. I called to pay a payment prior to my next due date I was then informed that the day prior...they decided to expedite my loan with out any notice and charged off my account to a collection agency. Although I have another care now for 3 months...I was trying to not have a bad mark on my credit by paying the payment on the damaged car. Now after paying two car payments for 3 months...It was a waste of my effort. They did not tell me that that was an option they could take at anytime nor did they send me any notification informing me of my balance after my car was totaled. I think they lacked to inform me about gap insurance at the time of the financing to get me caught up in owing them. I think if they require insurance at the time of purchase it should not just be liability but Gap as well. It should be thir responsibilty to inform the customer.
