None of the carmax service centers know what they are doing. Anyone with any talent or skill has either left, been pushed out, or would never consider working there.

It's a clown show.

Your only hope is to speak with the home office and tell them to send your car to the dealer.

Agreed to purchase car, then on way in to complete deal they sell to somebody else | Carmax review from Boynton Beach, Florida

Details
Wasted a ton of my time by selling the car I agreed to purchase just hours before my appointment to come in that evening and complete the sale. Sales people have no clue where the car went either, and the managers are giving them and I the run-around about what happened. Asked for a call and explanation and all they're doing to looking for another car for me, which by the way has been extremely slow. Who agrees to a deal, then right before you show up, they sell to somebody else? Shady dealings and unorganized dealership has created frustration, doubt, and anger with this dealerships management.

When buying a used car if someone gets there ahead of you with the money for the car they sell it. You can't expect them to not sell a car when someone is there ready to buy it only based on you saying you would come back later. You should have put a deposit on it.

They eventually came around and offered to transfer a replacement vehicle from any of their dealerships, and I did find one, but that's about it. The sales people I dealt with were great, but it's just like any other dealership, the bosses/mgmt never stepped up to the issue and explained what happened and took ownership of the issue.

In fact I got the drift that the sales people were blamed for this since they got a fire lit under their A*$ after I complained to their corporate entity. They don't take deposits, but they do put in purchase orders that secure the vehicle.

Somebody there deleted mine and it was just chalked up as a mistake by the sale person. Oh well, got a vehicle, but I had higher expectations for CarMax.

Just curious... Did you leave a deposit?

If not, there's really no way a high volume dealership with inventory on the Internet can hold a car. We had one snatched up while we were playing phone tag trying to get it transferred. The salesman explained that if someone walks in and is ready to purchase and there is no transfer being processed or deposit ...

It's fair game. It's a bummer but unless it's a small private dealership that you have a relationship with, that's how dealers are.

Carmax does not accept deposits. It's against policy.

I bought a 2008 certified Lexus LS460 in 2/13. I paid extra for an extended warranty for 48 months and up to 125K miles. Within 6 months I had over $5,000.00 in warrant claims that I had to wait for several days to get an inspector and to approve the work. The work was...

Thank you for being so honest! Reviews are important and since I have heard so many horror stories about this company I will not be going here and I will not refer anyone. I think they have a really bad reputation.

I'll say this again. Do not deal with the local store when you are having these issues.

Get on their facebook page and tactfully express your experiences with the store. Be sure to put dates, times and who you spoke with.

The home office will respond quite quickly by removing your post and then contacting you.

Remember, at carmax only the squeaky wheel gets the grease and to them, image is everything.

Lastly, you are wasting your time taking a BMW back to a KMX service center for secondary repairs when they counldn't fix it right the first time. Tell them to send to dealer and dont stop until you get what you want.

HTH,

Report of Deceit---live from the CARMAX Waiting Room

2.6
Details
Bought a 2011 Toyota Tundra in late 2013. At the time CARMAX told me the truck was in good condition, no accidents, blah blah, blah. I'm actually writing this from the CARMAX Raleigh waiting room because I just got an estimate from CARMAX on the same truck and I discovered there is an accident, reported in 2012! Very disappointed in CARMAX. Bought and sold several cars with them. I will absolutely never do that again! Looking at my legal options now. What an awful way to end a work week!!!!! Be very careful should you decide to do business here. You can end up with a nasty surprise that will devalue your purchase--instantly as in my case!!!!

Bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangled back in 210173 in Huntsville, Al. I had no problems with the vehicle up until about two weeks after the 30 day warranty was up.

It all started as I was driving to school, as I was going down the highway at about 75 MPH my steering wheel started shaking back and for really violently. It subsided after about 30 seconds. Over the course of the next 8 months it continued to do the same thing. It would start after hitting a slight bump or pot hole but would subside after hitting a certain speed.

Didn't have the money to pay for any repairs so I just left it alone. Finally, I did some research and found out its called the death wobble in jeeps and dodges. What happens is the bushings to the track bar wear down and cause the front tires to shake side to side. This problem has gotten the attention of a congressman in California and he's requested a recall but Jeep refuses.

This problem has caused accidents but no fatalities and this is why jeep refuses to take care of the problem. Well, I finally got it fixed by a family mechanic. It cost over $900 dollars. On top of the track bar and bushings, the steering stabilizer, and gearbox went bad.

My mechanic said what carmax does is they have the customers put all stock parts back on the vehicles that they buy. Well, in the case of jeeps we all know people put lift kits and after market tires on jeeps for off roading. Now, what all this extra stuff does it put added stress and pressure on the suspensions of the jeep and since the jeep has such a short body it causes the bushings to fail on to the track bar.

On top of the above problems, I shall list all my others with this vehicle.

1.) Vehicle won't start sometimes. If you put it into neutral it starts fine.

Its an automatic by the way.

2.) It leaks and the floor board gets soaked and thus smells like mold.

3.) Fan to the heater and air conditioning is starting to slow down and it stops on some days.

4.) Gas shoots out at me once the tank gets full when pumping gas.

I don't think I will bother with them again. I could however try to sell it back to them today and not tell them.

Yes many of the cars they offer for sale have been in an accident. Always check the History Report and the Car-Fax report.

Have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanical and body shop.

Don't be fooled by there "Clean Title" claim, that only means the vehicle was not a total loss, not that it hasn't been in a collision.

The sales people will only tell you what you want to hear, not what you need to know. Best to stay away from Carmax, there reputation is going down the drain rapidly.

Carmax is horrible and a disgrace. They will go belly up and just open a new business under a new name.

Same krap like circuit city. You also have to blame this countries loop holes that favor businesses.

In the end, the customer gets the ungreased shaft. Thats capitalism for ya

I would really need to speak with you - I bought a high-end BMW from Carmax and recently discovered prior collision history that Carmax did not disclose - crushing the resale value. I am an attorney and, based on their canned reponses to my complaints, I suspect this is part of their business model - purposely not disclosing prior accident history.

CARMAX....GREEDY, DISHONEST, JUST ANOTHER MONEY GRUBBING CORPORATION

Yes there prices are all well above any Retail book value you can find for that year, make and model and they will NOT negotiate the price, they call it "No Haggle Fair Price" FAIR TO WHO???? not the customer for sure. Yes the quality of there cars is poor to say the least, and I don't think much inspecting is being done. The complaints on here are just too numerous. I honestly don't know how or why they are still in business, but it's time to spread the word about this place and put an end to there greedy ways of doing business.

During my training I witnessed their facility where each bay was set up for inspecting different areas of the vehicle. Each inspector would have a specific part of the vehicle and their job was to do every vehicle the same.

Same order, each vehicle. Now the question is do they see something that may last 30 days or not? 5 days or not?

The point is the inspection probably gets done but whether or not they decide to fix it or let the customer deal with it. Then bringing it back is a whole other nightmare!

Ummm ringleader you seem to post on every comment I've read. Just curious...

I'm assuming you no longer work there.

Were you terminated? Why not offer helpful advice on how to deal with them, since you have inside info?

I probably do post way too much anonymous. The truth is there is no way to deal with them.

The only advice I can give is to either buy a brand new vehicle or if not financially possible, purchase from a reputable dealership. The reason I believe that carmax is not a reputable dealer is because of many reasons and one of them being of all the current employees and ex employees have been exposing the truth for way too long. Just because carmax keeps opening new stores is because there are new customers to screw in a new area!

Eventually when carmax goes belly up, the share holders will already have made millions. Then the cycle starts all over again operating under a new name, but same greedy folks who just care about PROFITS.

They sure are ***, like most large corporations in this country they use people up and discard them like yesterdays trash. I truly do feel sorry for the people working there having to lie and manipulate people.

They need to be put out of business, and the only way this will happen is to keep spreading the word about what a disgraceful, dishonest money grubbing company this is. SPREAD the WORD AMERICA!
