I purchased a vehicle from Carmax Superstore Irvine, CA on October 20, 2009.
Carmax made written and verbal statements that the vehicle did not have damage. I filed a complaint with the State of California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). The BAR report is available at www.carmaxlawsuit.com.
The investigation found that Carmax is in violation for a false and misleading record on invoice #152007 states "No frame damage found. No body damage found" Reinspection found the vehicle has auto body collision damage present.

1. Written by CarSUX is a scam. on May 3, 2012 from annapolis, maryland, US Bad quality cars. Very high prices. Nasty sales tricks that are even more flagrant than at any dealer. And "sorry, no negotiation here." WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANYONE WITH A RIGHT MIND GO TO THESE ROBBERS?" The worst of the worst. CarSux is a scam, and that clever advertising seems to draw in the pigeons day after day. Don't do it. Don't ever go there. Sadly though, suckers go there thinking its better than a real dealer. Will they ever learn???

3. Written by CarmaxvictiminFayettevilleNC on April 30, 2012 from fayetteville, north carolina, US Some of you have referred to the fact that you have an extended warranty. We do, too, so let me share our story. We purchased a low mileage Jeep in June 2011 (45K at purchase time.) Nine months later our car has 58K miles and needed a new engine. The total bill: $6529.03. The warranty overage (wait for it...) $45!!!! Yes, that's right. They're trying to escape coverage by saying we drove the car "too far" once it became difficult to steer -- the first and ONLY indication something was wrong. The TRUTH is my husband pulled over immediately upon finding a safe spot. NO one from CNA (warranty company) or Carmax is willing to define "too far." We ARE pursuing legal action but my opinion on the whole thing is this: if you've had a GOOD Carmax experience, quit while you're ahead. We'd had one okay one before this. But when (not IF) you do have a BAD one, it's going to be REALLY bad and they'll only be there to take your money, not offer any customer service. (I've heard countless stories from others about negative experiences they've had since I began telling mine to EVERY ONE I MEET. I WILL hurt their business locally and they deserve that and more. I'm working with two local news channels fraud investigations to spread the word. SHOP ELSEWHERE!!!
4. Written by @ seriouslyupset on February 16, 2012 from cleveland, ohio, US You took your Benz to a Carmax for service? Seriously. I understand where you are coming from on being upset... but honestly even if you bought it there, they are not set up to work on that car.
5. Written by SixsGirl on February 1, 2012 from boca raton, florida, US I bought a Dodge Ram 3 years ago from Carmax. I think they are wonderful. My truck is AWESOME and any problems I have had have been taken care of. Also have the extended warranty and haven't had to pay for anything. It's all how you deal with people. I demand the service and I get it.
6. Written by simonetatum on January 17, 2012 from memphis, tennessee, US The two cars my husband and I purchased in 2008 have both been in the shop multiply times for very expensive problems. The employees are rude and unsympathetic. The "extended warranty" has not paid for any of these problems and our experience has been a disaster.
7. Written by William Roderick on December 19, 2011 from bradenton, florida, US Just a quick note to say that I do not have anything bad to say about Carmax. I bought a Lincoln Aviator from them in Clw. Fl. about 3 years ago and it has been great. That being said I have a suggestion. This pertains to Carmax or any other Large organization. Instead of lawsuits, Better Business Bureau, D & B, etc. threaten to contact local TV station (s) regarding your issue. They all have an action on your side dept. and they love exposing large corporations taking advantage of a regular Joe. First threaten and if that doesn't work actually contact the TV stations (s). I have used this against 3 fairly large organizations in Florida and have been successful all 3 times. ![]()
8. Written by seriouslyupset on December 1, 2011 from miami, florida, US I bought a 2007 Mercedes in January of 2010 and have religously serviced the car. In September of this year I paid almost $600 for a 60K mile service at carmax, last Sunday the engine on my mercedes blew TWO pistons and CRACKED the cylindar block. My car has been towed from one Mercedes shop to another (first one would not touch it!!!) and now come to find out they want to give me a USED engine most likely from a crashed car!!! The warranty company was incredibly rude everytime I called, finally decided to seek legal counsel. I am convinced the maintenance done in September is responsible for my engine blowing, it was way too blatant, on the highway doing 65 and heard a mini explosion and all I saw was white smoke and the car stopped responding, very frightening!!! What a coincidence this occured just two months from them majorly servicing the car. The warranty states the parts will meet "quality standards", how can they say that when I don't even know what kind of accident the car was in (rear or front) or if that engine was abused or used for racing. Next step is to call the bank that financed me and explain that the value of what they are financing has significantly depreciated. ![]()
9. Written by info for you on October 2, 2011 from reston, virginia, US heres some helpful info for your case. Carmax has unlicensed uncertified "mechanics" doing inspections and repairs on the the vehicles they sell. They have signs in the service drive saying "We employ ASE certified Techs" This is false advertisement and the untrained people they have inspecting the cars is illegal.
10. Written by Wayne on September 24, 2011 from atlanta, georgia, US Carmax will not back there warranty or rental agreement. I have a extended warranty. My dodge is in the shop to replace a gasket. Carmax told me I have rental. But refused to give me any information on how to get the rental. they told me all day they would get back with me on the rental. The service department stop taking my calls at 4:00. They closed at 6. The manger Zack told me he would check on it and still when I called back at 5 they would not take my calls. I let them know it was my daughters wedding and I had to have a vehicle and they could have cared less. Can I sue they these people. If they do not back there warranty when the car is ready I will leave the car right at the dealership and they can deal with the finance company on the car. What can I do? I am having signs made to put all around Baton Rouge,LA tell people do NOT buy cars from CARMAX and a sign on my vehicle to advertise about the problem with carmax. Is there anything else I can do?
