Terrible pay has not changed in years.if you get promoted to manager from inside the company you make 8-10K less than managers hired from outside the company.

That's insulting and insane. Richmond headquarters lives in a bubble, no idea how bad the company's reputation is becoming. Location General Managers on up seem to care about their stock options going up and not about the long term outlook for the company. Wake up.

Wall Street can punish you if they think this is another Circuit City.

If you are a customer, good luck. You will pay thousands more than you should, your service contract may be hard to work with, and you may have to return your car and buy another one more than once to get a decent runner.

Just take a look at the corporate governance list and you will understand why carmax pays a very poor and unacceptable commission. Almost 60 total! The higher you go up in corporate, the less work you have to do. You get to give more orders, make decisions that *** of the employees, and have people under you do the dirty work. Gotta love America.

I recommend employees follow the path of the fast food workers. They have gotten to a point where they dont care if they lose their jobs! If sales people strike, carmax will be in a most unpleasant situation. Stand up for yourselves and get what you think is fair. Remember who is in control here, the workers are, not the ceo or even corporate.

Has anyone read the headlines about carmax being associated with donald sterling? Isn't it ironic how these two are mentioned together. Now that sterling has been caught carmax is going to jump ship now. carmax must have known what type of guy sterling is because he had other issues way back when! A quote in the sterling story from carmax went like this, "These views directly conflict with CarMax's culture of respect for all individuals" ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Just read all the posts about carmax and they way they treat their employees!! This company should quit while they are ahead.

Anyone thinking of working for carmax, here is a heads up. I worked there less than a year and found the pay for a sales consultant way below the standard of the industry. It does not matter what kind of vehicle you sell, you only get $160 for it. If you sell an extended service plan, you get $100 for it. You get $50 if the customer sells carmax their vehicle, BUT you don not get the $50 for the trade in if the customer buys a vehicle (pure good ole american bs). What really sucks is that the sales consultant is doing 3 jobs at once, and only gets commission for selling! This company is evil. There are benefits at carmax, BUT you pay for it. I would agree that my benefits paid by carmax, does not cost them a dime because of the small commission that is paid, and all the extra work you have to do that is not paid, because remember, you are suppose to be paid on commission! This company suks and I hope the ceo dies a horrible death. Is it really a benefit then? If you understand how the award is given out about a fortune 500 company, it means NOTHING. carmax is taking advantage of the sales consultant, and sales people SHOULD FEEL like a fool, but I guess some JUST DONT GIVE A KRAP. If you are not selling 20 cars a month at carmax, you WONT BE ABLE TO MAKE A LIVING IN THIS DAY AND AGE, ONLY THE CEO WILL MAKE OUT LIKE A BANDIT. *** CARMAX AND THEIR UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. I PRAY EVERY DAY THAT THIS COMPANY GOES UNDER.

carmax will probably be hiring to replace the employees that are fed up working there. There is a huge amount of people who's unemployment has run out and will be very desperate for a job. carmax will take total advantage of the situation by not paying their sales consultants for their time, only if they sell, but they are expected to do ACTUAL WORK for carmax. As a sales consultant you WILL BE REQUIRED (forced) to answer the phones and reply to web mails in the e office for appx 15 hours a week. You are basically a secretary that works for free. You will be expected to lock the vehicles at night which can be roughly 20 minutes (depending on store size). You will be expected to attend weekly meetings that you wont be paid for. You will be expected to participate in role playing. You will be expected to listen to your phone calls, and you will be observed by all the managers and buyers. To make a long story short, expect to hate working there.

The customers will be able to actually run finance themselves in the lot in the near future. They will have all the information and price for the vehicle they are interested in. So no need for the sales consultant anymore, which is a very good thing because carmax is not a good company to work for as a sales consultant. Car sales in general actually suck these days. Every 8 out of 10 commercials you see and hear are car dealers. There is really no need for stress and unfair treatment working at carmax in sales. Have some respect for yourselves, and do something you love to do.

Sales consultants may be phased out at carmax because of the internet. Customers can obtain vehicle information and price without the help of a sales consultant (order taker as a manager would say) Jobs and the economy are not getting any better, but on the contrary getting worse. So sales people, prepare yourselves.

Another truthful post about this company. It is pretty amazing how many people are saying the exact same things about carmax. The LGM where I worked kept a pretty low profile, but was the fuel that was added to the fire. The LGM in each store is a higher class puppet than the managers. One of the reasons a sales consultants commission is so low, is because the LGM needs a paycheck also. Considering what their job description is, they actually are way overpaid in my opinion. They are the ones that get the managers all fired up. You know, its amazing how many buyers and managers there are that ONCE WERE sales people! This explains why so many sales people are pissed off working at carmax. I always wanted to express my observations as a sales consultant but never could, so now I am.

carmax is making headlines in the charity end of the business. They want to LOOK like they are a company that really cares about people, but in reality they are a company that likes to have control and put fear in their employees. It's a business/profit thing, nothing else.

Anonymous, we all know they don't care about employees. What do we do about it is the important thing. I have been doing my part as far as spreading the truth about carmax. If you are still at carmax there are things you can do to *** them off. They are big on getting customers e mails, so make sure they dont the e mails. Those same e mails from the customers are the ones that hurt the sales people in VOC. In most cases, a bad survey is out of the control of the sales person, like mechanical problems, or very insulting appraisal offers, or vehicles making noises and/or vibrations on test drives. carmax got ya by the b@lls!

I wear my carmax shirts when I am out and whenever I get asked about carmax, I explain to them basically everything that is being said on pissed, and my personal experiences. You see, some employees like myself refuse to be treated like a mule, so I will stand up for what is right. The more people that know what goes on at carmax, the better is for me , and it's not in the best interest of carmax.
